WIP Wednesday, making progress

Hello Everyone,

California is getting some rain, I hope the fires are getting rained on. They really need to be put out.

I'm finally making some progress on my quilt. I even found a name for it :) Cornerstones.

I'm chain piecing 2 geese blocks together.

I need 4 of these units per block.

And here is the finished block. You can see why I am calling it Cornerstones.

It feels good to have all that trimming done, so now I can get to the fun part of putting them all together.

Linking up with Lee and Lorna today. Thanks Ladies!

WIP Wednesday

Good morning everyone!

Hope your day is off to a good start. It's going to be a beautiful day here.

I've been working on my disappearing 9patch quilt. I haven't figured out a name for it yet.

Here's the 9 patches, all ready for a good press and then cutting them apart.

And here are the flying geese, in progress.

I use the method where you get 4 geese out of 1 larger square and 4 smaller squares. I'm almost done with these, then I'll press and trim.

Linking up with Lee and Lorna again today. Thanks Ladies.

WIP wednesday

Hello Everyone,

I've been working on my dd's quilt. I have all the quilt blocks sewn together, so now I just need to add a border.

Funny story... I designed this quilt in EQ, on my older computer. When we bought a new computer I saved some of the quilt designs so I can transfer them into my new computer and wouldn't lose them.

Well, for some reason, I never saved the design for this particular quilt. So I wasn't sure if I had designed it in a 5 x 5 grid, or a 4 x 6.

So I got out some paper real quick and made me a pattern up in the 5 x 5 grid. Just a quick sketch so I can put the blocks in the right spot. Then I sewed it up.

The funny part is... before I got out that paper to make my quick sketch.. I had decided on doing a 4 x 6 grid... lol, so I don't know why a 5 x 5 grid was sketched up.

But thats' ok, I really like it this way.

Especially the middle part here. With the girls surrounding the middle windmill.

I'm going to put a wide border on the top and bottom to make the quilt longer, and just a slim border on the sides to have it all come together.

Today I'm linking up with Lee. And with Lorna at SewFreshQuilts and her Bee Social Wednesdays. Thanks Ladies!

WIP Wednesday

Hello All!

Have you been following the blog hop over at Sew We Quilt? There is some cute Halloween/Fall projects going on over there.

Mine is all ready (I post on Oct 27th).

And so is my project for the Twas the Night blog hop happening in Nov. I can't show you that though, as it's a gift. What a fun blog hop this is going to be. The project we made is going to the person on the list below us (on the blog hop)! So you will see my project on someone's blog. I hope she likes it. And I'll post about the sweet gift I received.

Which means I can get back to my projects that I left hanging.

Starting with the Sept mystery quilt from Jess at the Quilt and Needle. I was a tester... and I'm still not done :( I just have a few more rounds to go, then I can put all these together.

I'm still working on Carson's dino quilt too.

And Rachael's quilt has taken a back burner... hope to get to it soon.

Hope you all are enjoying some quilting and creating!

WIP Wednesday

Hello All!

Another beautiful day here.

My August goal was to get this dino quilt from LAST August quilted. NOT going to happen.

I have started on it, am only about 1/4 the way thru.

I have a hard time doing large motifs. I am finding that I just really like to quilt small ones, all over the place.

I still need A LOT of practice.

It's a good thing I have a huge pile of tops to practice on ;)

WIP Wednesday and May Goals

Hello Everyone,

I hope you're all getting some sunshine now, and the snow has gone away. It's gorgeous here.

 I was able to get my picnic quilt top (for the picnic blog hop) all pieced together (I'll show you more of it at the end of the month, as it's also my challenge quilt.) this week.

So today I would like to get it sandwhiched and ready to quilt. That's my May goal for ALOYF, getting this quilted up. It's lap size, so I should be able to get 'er done.

Other than this quilt top, I've gotten a few baby blocks made for a forum members Grandchild. (The color is all screwy in this picture. They are really white/light blue and white/dark blue.)

 My April X and + blocks have been done for a few weeks. I just haven't gotten them to the mailbox yet :(

And that's all I've been working on.

Have a great day today!

WIP Wednesday

Hello Everyone,

Gosh, didn't mean to be gone for so long. There hasn't been a whole lot of quilting going on though.

I have managed to start my project for the ruffles blog hop coming up next month.

Here's a sneak peek.

I can't seem to stay away from these stars. I just love making them. And I love these colors!

That dark purple is a rich, vibrant color. And the soft orchid purple just helps to set it off perfectly.

My day on the blog hop is March 7th.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I also got some batting and some backing fabric, so am hoping to start some quilting soon too. I have a hug pile of tops that need to be done. The first one I am going to do is this beauty.
It's a Jessica Smith mystery quilt. This was March of 2013. Contact Jess if you want the pattern.
I bought this sweet print for the backing.
Bear Creek is having a great sale right now.
Thats it for me this week. Have a great day!
Joining Lee today.
WIP Wednesday
Hello Everyone,
We are having such gorgeous Fall weather here. Our Black Oaks are starting to change color, well...their leaves are. lol The RedBud changes from green to brilliant oranges and reds, before the leaves fall off too. Such gorgeous colors among all the green Pines.
I started quilting J's quilt, Train stop. It's a LARGE quilt, and I dont have enough table in the back of my machine yet, but it's going ok.
I haven't decided if I am just going to do straight line quilting, to keep with the geometric design of the quilt, or if I am going to add some fmqing too. I'll get all my straight lining done, and see what I think.
(This quilt is entered into Quilting Galleries weekly contest. This week it's Modern Geometric. You can vote for your favorite on Friday.)
I also got most of my dino quilt top done for C. Here's a sneak peek...you can't see the rest till next month. I want to throw on a few solid strip borders before then too.
Have a great day!
workS in progress wednesday
Hello, hello everyone,
Hope you are all enjoying the winding down?? of Summer. At least it's cooling off a bit here. I am ready for crisp Fall days and chilly nights.
I got the book (Beginners guide to FMQing) I ordered and had such a great time doing some practicing. I was having tensions issues that I thought was operator error, I thought I just needed to get my sewing machine speed and hand movement speed better coordinated. Well, I am happy to say, I was wrong! After reading my new book, I realized I might have to loosen my top tension some more. And low and behold, it worked!!
This first picture, you can see the black thread from the front coming thru and looping. See it on the left hand side?  But once I set the top tension looser, look here on the right. Much better!
 Here's another piece. You can't see any black stitching at all :D I am having so much fun!
Here's the front of the second piece. It's a LOT harder to stay on the lines then a person would think!!! lol. Yup, need lots more practice.
~~~~~~

Another mystery quilt weekend is coming up this weekend!!  (The link is for ordering the pattern) Jess asked if I wanted to/have time to test. Of course I want too!!! I just hope I have the time too ;) lol

Here are the fabrics I am using.

~~~~~
I have a post up on the Q&N blog about keeping organized while sewing big projects. Especially useful if you do not have a design wall.
Thats what I'm up to, what about you?
WIP Wednesday
Hello Everyone,
I hope your days are bright and sunny. It's been beautiful weather here. Warm with a cool breeze for the most part. Perfect!
My young man's quilt is coming along nicely.
These hexagons and triangles are HUGE. The quilt is going to finish at around 67"x84" or something like that. He's a big boy ;)
I just have to sew my rows together, then the top will be done.
Son is very happy with it, he says he loves the geometric designs :)
I used Julie's hex n more ruler, what a great tool!
Howdy Folks!
Here is my progress on my Windmill stars. I really love the orange swirl added in, I wish I would of done this with all the blocks!
I'm still debating on my layout, but I *think* I've figured it out.
Nadine has a nice design on the one she made.
WIP Wednesday
Hello Everyone,
What a gorgeous day it is here in N. California! The sun is shinning, it's warm and we have lots of things blooming :)
I am having a Saturday Special on the Forum next month for my Pats' Gems pattern. (More about that soon.) So I am 'testing' my pattern again, as is my good friend Pat.
Here I have my background fabrics cut and ready to go. I'm pairing them up with charm packs of Simply Color. I've had these charms for awhile, just waiting for a chance to get this pattern done up.
I'm also still plugging along, quilting my I spy, I am half way done! Woohoo!
Those are my two main projects this month. Linking up with Lee.
Have a great day,
Thanks for stopping by.
Progress
Hello Everyone,
I spy something orange...
         Is it this giraffe?
No.
Is it this dump truck?
Yes! It is.
Yup, I have my I spy top put together.
 (Not the best picture I know...it was too windy to hang it on the clothes line. lol)
This is my mid-month checkin with Shanon and Melissa.
A Lovely Year of Finishes
I've been busy with the mystery quilt for the past week. I'm not quite finished with it, but it's been keeping me from getting this I spy quilted...I had better hurry up if I want to reach my goal!
I've also done a bit more progress on my hex quilt.
I got the blue round put on most of the hex's. The gray is going to be the background. Then I have triangles and setting triangles and strips to do...lots going on, never enough time ;)
I'm linking up with Less and Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday too!
Have a great day all.
