Another Bear quilt finished

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all staying safe and busy at home. I know I have lots of things to keep me busy right here. 

Spring is in the air, the trees are all in full bloom, the Red Bud and lilac is blooming, as is the iris's and lupine. The grass is green, it's all so beautiful.

I started this bear quilt back in 2016. Lorna was having a quilt along for her bear pattern, and I had just boughten a 10" stack of Robert Kaufman's fusion line (I love this fabric!).

So a few weeks ago, I pulled it out of the bin and decided to get it quilted up. It was fairly quick, the quilt is 42x48, so I was able to get it finished in a weekend.

Here's a few closeups.

You can see my minimal quilting. A bit in the paws and thru the sashing.

Isaiah, my youngest son, has claimed it for his bed :)

I think I'll quilt up one of my Irish stars next...maybe... I have so many to choose from! :)

New Fabrics and some WIPs

We are finally getting some sun today, it looks so nice! As much as we needed alllll that rain and snow we got, it's nice to see the sun after weeks of it. I hope March is a sunnier/warmer month, as April and May are usually quiet wet.

I've got a little bit of fabric therapy in :) My middle son has always been an animal and nature lover. And as he is 5'10" already, he has outgrown his old quilts and is in need of a new one.

I let him pick out the colors, I was pretty sure what they would be and figured they would go along with the wildlife panel I had picked out. And I was right :) These are all Shadow play by Maywood. I got them at a decent price at Somewhere Sewing. The wildlife panel is by Robert Kaufman.

I am making lots of geese with these fabrics, using the 4 geese at a time method. The Spruce Crafts have a nice chart, so that you know what size squares to use.

Take a large square, put two smaller squares on top, right sides together. Mark a diagonal line thru the smaller squares and sew a quarter inch on both sides of the line. Cut apart between the 2 sew lines. Instead of marking a line, I just fold my smaller squares on the diagonal and finger press. Makes a nice line that goes away without a wash.

Open up the triangles and add another square. Again, mark a line along the diagonal, sew on either side of it, cut on the line.

Open up, and you have your geese. Full instructions here.

I also got some backing fabric for my Bear quilt. A bear needs to roam in the woods :)

I got a great price on it at Thousands of Bolts (love this store). This quilt is a gift, so I need to get it quilted.

I've also been working on my embroidery wall hanging. This is my March project, so I work on it a little bit everyday. I added the blocks from this post as a border (Marcia calls them Golden Gate blocks.), then put in a second border. I decided not to use the log cabins. 

I have plenty to keep me busy in the sewing room :) Hope you are keeping busy and enjoying some warmer, or cooler, weather.

A bit of progress

Hello Everyone,

My poor sewing machine is going unloved these days. I just haven't had the energy to sew very much lately. Medical issues are keeping me down.

But, I have done a few minutes here and there and have 4 more completed bear paw blocks done (for the Mod bear paw QAL)

Thanks to everyone who helped me out with the backing ground fabric. I have decided to stick with the dark brown.  As my good friend Pat says, the color will imply 'trees', and so that fits in perfectly.

Here is the background color on the far left and the colors I will be using for the bear. I think they are light enough for him to stand out enough.

Hope you are all enjoying the change of weather. I love this time of year, going from a hot summer to some cool rain. It's been lovely.

Bear Paw QAL

Hello All,

Lorna over at SewFreshQuilts is hosting a Bear Paw QAL. She makes the cutest animal designs.And I decided to play along :)

Here's the fabrics I am going to use. The dark green on the left is going to be the background and I think I'm going to use the cream/flowers for the sashing in between the blocks with the green as cornerstones. We'll see once I get a few blocks made.

I'm back!

Hello Everyone!

I didn't mean to be gone so long. But as this is a quilting blog and not much quilting has been going on...well, there wasn't much to say. I've been down in the pits of  no-quilting-motivation, but now, I think, I am back out.

I have done a few little things. Made both my oldest son and daughter wallets. Made my dd a small, across the chest purse. She doesn't wear make up or jewelry and doesn't really need a big purse, so this one does the trick nicely.

I've been buying some fabric here and there, hoping to find that quilting mojo. This is a FQ bundle of Boundless solids, by Craftsy.com.

Here's a lovely bundle of Robert Kaufman's Fusion Blooms, a 10" stacker.

The gray on the left of the next picture, I bought at a quilt show. The other three lovelies were a birthday gift from my friend Carol

These lovelies were a birthday gift from my big Sis, who is also a quilter :) These photos are not the best for sure. These are so rich and vibrant in real life.

And here's some I bought when Quilt Fabric Closeout was having a sale. The butterflies and roses are 1/2 yrd pieces for the stash, the butterflies on the right I am going to use in a backing for one of my quilt tops. Theres a few yrds there, so good for a pieced back.

And now that I have some pretty new fabric, I think I'm going to join Lorna in her Bear paw quilt along. I just love Lorna's animal quilts, they are so cute! And I've always had a thing for bears, so this just sang out to me.

                               

I'm making  a crib sized, but going to add a border of the paw prints, cause they are too cute to leave out. I'll be using some of the Fabric fusions for the bear paw blocks and the bear, but haven't decided yet on the background and sashing.

So, here's hoping I can get some quilting going on and keep my mojo up :) Would love to hear from you all, what have you been up to?
