WIP Wednesday

Hello All!

Have you been following the blog hop over at Sew We Quilt? There is some cute Halloween/Fall projects going on over there.

Mine is all ready (I post on Oct 27th).

And so is my project for the Twas the Night blog hop happening in Nov. I can't show you that though, as it's a gift. What a fun blog hop this is going to be. The project we made is going to the person on the list below us (on the blog hop)! So you will see my project on someone's blog. I hope she likes it. And I'll post about the sweet gift I received.

Which means I can get back to my projects that I left hanging.

Starting with the Sept mystery quilt from Jess at the Quilt and Needle. I was a tester... and I'm still not done :( I just have a few more rounds to go, then I can put all these together.

I'm still working on Carson's dino quilt too.

And Rachael's quilt has taken a back burner... hope to get to it soon.

It's been awhile...

Hi out there, it's been a long few weeks.

I haven't been sleeping well, which makes me tired during the day (thankfully I can take a nap or two). Which makes it hard to get on with the creative making of quilts and such.

I did make a bag. And I have made a few blocks for some "Auntie Quilts", but that's about all.

What's an "Auntie Quilt" you ask. On the Q&N forum, we all band together to make quilts for our members who are expecting a baby, a grand baby or a niece/nephew. Some of us make blocks, one person pieces, one quilts, one or more buy the backing and batting. It's a lot of fun.

And here is the FANTASTIC Aunty Quilt that my good friends made for me :)

I like white backgrounds, they look nice. But they don't go very well for our lifestyle. LOL, living in the mtns with animals and kids going in and out to play in the dirt and brush...umm,  no, white doesn't work. So the background for the stars is a nice yellow and the green and orange go with it so well! Green being my favorite color AND us not finding out if we are having a boy or girl till s/he gets here, it makes a great neutral quilt.

The stars all have baby animals or something similar, suitable for either boy or girl.

It's soooo cute!

And what's extra special.... my oldest sister is part of the Q&N forum, and she made some of the blocks :)

The back is a cute light green with a darker green line of bubbles every where. I thought this was a neat shot, with the sun streaming thru.

Speaking of the Q&N. The newest mystery quilt weekend will be March 17-18. You can buy the pattern here at the store. You can even buy a kit if you want. Jess's kits are beautiful! And we always have a thread going the weekend of the mystery, so that members can join in and share pictures and ask any questions.

I am also planning on getting something going for the Q&N blog, poor blog, it's been too long! I'm just tired and haven't gotten it all laid out yet. It will be a weekly post on various blocks.

weekend quilting

 Saturday was a dreary, rainy/cloudy day, quite chilly too.  This Iris had broken off, so Daughter brought it in the house. I thought it looked interesting against the water on the window.

 So I decided to work on this beauty for a bit.

 

Sigh, it isn't my picture taking day....the close ups I took of the quilting turned out fuzzy...so, another time I'll show you that progress.

 This is the first Round Robin I've done. It was done in 1999, or 2000 maybe. And I am still hand quilting it. The poor thing was set aside for a loooong while. Then when we moved up here, I thought "now I'll get that butterfly quilt quilted". I figured, cold winters= days sitting by the fire quilting, right??

WRONG! I have pulled it out occasionally, but can only sew one needles worth of thread before my hand gets too  numb.

At least I have a hand project when I want one :)

Today dawned bright and sunny, but some clouds have come back...hope they go back away for a bit. So I've been doing more work on my butterfly wings.....hmm, I see a 'pattern' here.

Three more 'butterflies' to add to the collectiong. Guess I'll keep playing in the fabric basket, till I have a larger quilt.

LOL, butterflies! They are so beautiful. I'm using a butterfly fabric in the "It's too pretty to cut" challenge I am doing on the Q&N also.

 I was telling you my purple Iris's are blooming, but not my yellow ones....Here's what I found yesterday...

Another ditty bag

 Here is another ditty bag. I've made a cute little pocket in the front, it's hard to see, unless something is sticking out of it.

It also has a zip pocket on the inside. I think I've tested this pattern enough now :) it's already to get written up and printed soon.

I've also finished the  mystery quilt at the Q&N.

Sorry, but it's going to remain a mystery for now. I don't want to ruin anyone's surprise. And it IS a surprise. Jess is great at keeping it a mystery, till the last few steps.

But you can go to the Q&N, and become a member. And join in the fun on the mystery threads.












It's another stormy, wet week here in Norther California. A good time to be inside, sewing, schooling and being with the family.

It must be it's the March mystery quilt going on.

On Monday I had my honey oil the machine and I got it all ready to go (yes, I really do piece on a hundred+ yr old White treadle, and I love it!). I got some of the fabric in the mail on Monday, and got a bunch of HST's cut and trimmed.

Am I just a lame brain, or does everyone have to take time to trim HST's?? And even when I trim them nice and neat, I still have problems getting my points to match nicely...SIGH~

That's the worst part of quilting for me, is all the trimming to make blocks nice and neat. Taking off dog ears and such. It's SO time consuming, at least for me it is....

I spent most of Tuesday working on the Mystery quilt.. I love testing these for Jess. She always comes up with a neat, pretty, fun design.

The mystery quilt weekend is this coming weekend, the 19th and 20th. You can still get kits and/or the pattern here.

I have the rest to finish today. And I should have it finished today, barring any unforeseen problems/issues not only with the pattern, but with the family.
