Working on the Round Robins

Hello Everyone,

I hope your Summer (or Winter) is going well. Here at my place it hasn't been tooooo terribly hot yet, but then, anything over 85 is too hot for me ;)

What little sewing I've been doing has been on these two round robins I've been working on.

The 30s print one is done. After unfolding it, I knew it needed some prairie points going around it.

As you can see by the picture, the prairie points are only sewn along the bottom edge in the seam line. Once Denise gets this home, she can iron them down and do her quilting, then they'll stay pointing up.

These prairie points are really easy to make. I took a few charm packs... laid one out, and folded it diagonally.

Folded it diagonally again.

Made another one. Then stuck one point of PP 1 inside of PP2, I like there to be about an inch between the two points.

But you can pull your PP inside further if you want to, you'll just see more of the jointed place once its' sewn onto the quilt.

 I put this under my machine and sew an 1/8 of an inch from the edge. Putting PP2  inside PP1 as I sew along.

 Then just keep adding them as you go. Sewing them all in a straight strip.

 Here is a close up of some of them sewn on the quilt top.

Now on to the pretty star RR. Here's my pieces, I just need to sew them all together and put them on the top.

My scrap project is coming along nicely. I've decided to pull more scraps, from another bin. I'll cut and trim those then buy some clear plastic bins and put different sizes and shapes into them. So, an on going project. I wont be making any quilt tops out of them just yet... although I have plenty of ideas :)

Have a great week ya'all.

What I'm working on

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all in the snowy states are staying warm. You sure are getting walloped this year. We've had some unusual rain/wind for February here. But it's good, we sure do need it. I hope we get some nice snow in a month or so :) And now more sunshine.

I have this pretty Fall quilt to work on. It's for our Round Robin on the Q&N forum. This one is Dawn's.

I have my fabric picked out and cut. So need to get to sewing more.

My good friend Pat sent me some Beautiful Bird fabric panels(thank you sweetie). So I have to get going and figure out what I want to make with it. It's for the Bird blog hop next month.

I have some backing and batting, so I am ready to sand which my dd's quilt together too.

That should keep me busy in the sewing room for awhile, yes?! lol

What are you up to?

Have  a great day!

sewjo Saturday, and April goal

Hello, hello Everyone,

Hope you are all well and enjoying a bit of Spring. We are going to have a gorgeous week next week, highs in the low 70s, just PERFECT :)

I got a bit more quilting done this past week than usual, yah!

I had a heck of a time with this RR. You know how some projects everything just seems to go wrong?

Well thats what happened here. I started cutting out HSTs', instead of geese blocks. I measured wrong, numerous times. I sewed things on in the wrong spots. You name, I probably did it. LOL. But at last it is done and on it's way to the next person in line.

Then I got out this charity quilt and got it basted and started to quilt it. It took me forever, it seems, to figure out how I wanted to quilt it. I wanted to do pine trees and bears, but thankfully I stopped myself and reminded myself that I was pretty new to FMQing, and I should probably practice more before I attempted that.

So I am doing meandering stars. It's a lot of repetitiveness, but it will give me good practice.

This is also my goal for April. I need to finish quilting this and get it bound.

Have a great weekend all!

Round Robin

Hello Everyone,

A few of the Gals on the Q&N forum and I are doing some Round Robins.

So this week I've been working on Sherry's. This is Sherry's medallion,  plus the border Karen put on it.

She wants to keep it black/white with a  pop of color.

I decided it really needed some geese.

I'll show you the rest when I finish it. It should of been in the mail on Thurs :( Will have to get it out on Tues, when I go to town next.

Have a great day all.

A few things..

Hello All,

The days and weeks just seem to be flying by. I can't believe it's the middle of Nov already. My toddler keeps me pretty busy. He's taking forever to bring in his baby teeth, and is pretty clingy because of it. So we spend a lot of time outdoors, keeping him busy. I don't know what we'll do when it's too cold to spend hours outside at a time.

My Dear Friend Pat and I have joined Carla  and Susan's fun friendship swap.

Lolly Quiltz

Pat and I are going with a throw size quilt. In scrappy colors of gray, pink, blue, green, yellow, purple, and orange. This will be hard for me. I am a controlled scrappy type person, so I will try to just have fun with this and not be too controlling in my placement of colors.

Pat already has her blocks done for this month. I need to start on mine. So no pics yet.

~~~~~
Another fun thing for next year is a new Round Robin going on over at the Q&N. We had skipped doing one this year, but a few of us have decided to do it next year. We'll be making bed sized quilts. I can't wait to get started, I love RR's!  I need to get my medallion made.
~~~~

And I am happy to say, that I am almost finished with J's quilt!

I bet you are all happy about that, so I stop blogging about it ;) LOL. Then I really need to start some Christmas sewing!

Have a great day all!

Pre-cuts

I have a confession to make, I've never used a pre-cut in all my 16yrs of quilting! Amazing I know...they are so very popular right now. And all for good reasons.

I am wondering what your favorite pre-cuts are, and why? Do you prefer working with squares?

Small, charm packs?

Larger layer cakes?

Or strips, like jelly-rolls, honey-buns, etc?

  As you can see, I have some Sunkissed on my mind. I just LOVE this line by Sweetwater.

I plan on entering this jelly roll contest, and will use the Sunkissed line. Already have the wheels a turning, thinking up some designs. Anyone else  going to enter?

**********

On the Q&N forum, we have started our Robins for this year. The past 2 yrs we have done Round robins. This year we are doing a Row robin. They are so much fun! You sometimes have to work with colors or designs that are outside your box, so that makes it challenging. You make friends from all over the world (we have three Aussie Gals joining us this year! One from Britain, and a few in Canada), and you get a gorgeous quilt by the end of the year.

Here is my row for this year

It is 36" long, 6" high. I want my group of 6 other gals to use the same design, keeping the white part white, but choosing two other fabrics, instead of the pink and blue. It is a slight variation of  a Jacob's ladder.

Here is my Round robin from last year. Isn't it beautiful!! I just love it.

I can't wait to see what my Row robin will look like at the end of the year. I don't like to peek, and see what each person puts on mine. So I wait and have a surprise when it's all finished.

**********

So today, I will be working on Tiffaney's row robin. She is also a non-peeker, so I wont be able to show you what I do to it.

And I have some cooking to do, need to make some bread.

Have a great day all!

Thanks for stopping by, Dorian
