January goal...finished!

Hello All,

Whew, I just made it. I got my dd's quilt top finished, which was my goal for January for ALYOF (which you can read about here).

As you can see, the wind was being a big problem today. So my pictures aren't all that great. But you get the idea.

My DD has a single bed, so this is plenty big enough. Just slightly longer than wider, thanks to the extra border top and bottom.

I'll try to get better pictures later in the day, when the wind has died down.. if it dies down.

For now, I'm calling it Fort Firefly, as that's the name of this cute fabric.

Thank you Melissa and Shanna!

Have a great day all.

A few things

Good morning everyone,

The skies are still smoky, the fires still burning, but they are getting contained. Thankfully they are not close enough to us this year to make us be in danger.  But prayers for them being put out is appreciated. If you look at a fire map, it looks like the whole Western side of the US is burning. Pretty scary. Zoom in on Northern California, and you can see all the fires in my area (the gray means it's been put out).

So, onto fun things instead ;)

Blog hop season is starting over at Sew We Quilt. I am not in either of the Sept ones, but I did decide to make a fun Fallish/Halloweeny type one. For the Black Cat Crossing hop in late Oct.

I am not much of a Halloween decorator, but I really like Maywoods fabric lines, this line is called Black Cat Crossing. I can pick fabrics from that line that are more Fallish to me, then Halloween, and it will be a fun quilt to make. Something different for me.

I've got most of my blocks done for my DD's quilt.

 Just have a few more windmill blocks to make.

 Now they all need a good ironing and I can start putting things together.

I'm still waiting on backing for my son's quilt.

And I'm still working on my new sewing room. I need to start getting that together. All I have in there so far is my cutting table and sewing machine, plus a few new fabric bins :)

Have a great day all.

WIP....Thursday

Hello Everyone,

I missed out on WIP Wednesday, but as I have only been posting once a week, I'm putting it up today. It's hot here, again, but it will cool off again next week. Between the heat and the baby, I just haven't been doing much sewing.

I did manage to get some of my windmills together.

It needs a good bout with the iron ;) I am not real happy with it, but I hope it will grow on me, as I add the rest of it.

~~~~~~~~~~~
In other news. I have entered my I Spy quilt in the weekly Show and Tell over at The Quilting Gallery.
Tomorrow, July 26th, you can go over to the Quilting Gallery and vote for your favorite "quilts for little people".
If you are coming over from the Quilting Gallery, I welcome you and hope you'll enjoy looking around. You can find out more about my I spy quilt here,and here
Enjoy all the lovely eye candy!
WIP Wednesday
Hello Everyone,
I hope you've had a nice, quilty week. The weather has been gorgeous here, but we are about to get hot again.
I finally decided on a layout for my windmills. At least, I have a plan...
The middle will be pieced like a traditional hexagon flower.
Then I want to create a small green 'pathway' going around it, and another round of windmills.
I don't know if it's going to work, or if I am going to have to place a round of green hexagon's for the path, like a traditional hex garden. We'll see..
I'm calling it Windmill's in the  garden ;)
Linking up with Lee again this week. Thanks Lee.
Have a great day.
WIP Wednesday
Howdy Folks,
Hope the extreme weather has settled down for everyone. It's gorgeous here! Upper 80s/low 90s with a nice breeze :)
I have been doing very little sewing lately. I need to buy some batting, so that I can start doing some quilting, but I also want to rearrange my sewing machine/table so that I have more room.
I have started on my Christmas in July blog hop project though! So that is good. I've gotten this far, but now need batting so that I can continue. It's going to be a quilt as you go project.
I dug these out today too. This is a mystery pattern from Jess at the Quilt and Needle. I think it's either one of last years, or the year before! I want to get it finished.
And I'm still trying to figure out how I want these fun windmills laid out. I've been letting it 'stew' in my head for awhile, and nothing has come to me yet.
It's been a lazy Summer :)
Have a great day!
WIP Wednesday
Howdy Folks!
Here is my progress on my Windmill stars. I really love the orange swirl added in, I wish I would of done this with all the blocks!
I'm still debating on my layout, but I *think* I've figured it out.
Nadine has a nice design on the one she made.
WIP Wednesday
Hello Everyone,
It's another Wednesday, they seem to get here so quickly, just where is the time going?
I have a teething baby, who is fussy and clingy, so I haven't been doing much sewing. But I did manage to whip these 18 windmill star blocks up.
Chain piecing, these come together soooo quickly!
I'm using my beloved Sunkissed as background and/or more windmill blocks.
I haven't decided yet, if I am going to keep the hexagon shape, or add background to make them squares. I'm just not sure how I want to lay them out yet.
These were made using Kona solids, in the architextures jelly roll. The background is Sunkissed by Sweetwater.
Hooking up with Lee again.
Oh look, Julie is showing off her versions of this block! (I used her hex n more ruler too.)
Have a great day!
Leftovers
And no, not the dinner kind ;)
Howdy Folks, back in March Jess had another fabulous mystery quilt weekend. It used jelly rolls, and here is what I had leftover when we were done. Lots of strips sewn together, and partly cut into. But also whole wof strips.
While doing the mystery quilt, and any other time I have some strips like this sewn together, I immediately think of Lone star quilts. So I thought I could use the leftovers and do that. But... I've made a few of those... here, herehere
So I kept that in the back of my mind and let it stew.
In the mean time, I started seeing, and remembering, other star quilts that were just gorgeous. Like this one from V&co.
And this one from Rachel.
And then Lee started her Bloom, bloom, pow quilt along.
picture taken from freshlypieced.com
 And that was it. I knew what I was going to do with my pretty leftovers.
I matched my oranges to other colors. So all my blocks with have a shade of orange in them.
Then I used my hex n more ruler and started cutting.
And came up with this.
One strip will give me enough for both these blocks. All my blocks with have a different shade of orange, for each set. And different colors...blues, greens, purples. I'm having fun~
Hope you have a great weekend.
Table runner finished!
  Hello Everyone,
I got my table runner finished! Now to get it off in the mail, so it can be used by it's recipient.
I looked out the window and saw all our pretty snow and had to take a picture of the runner on it! lol. Of course, with 2 kids trailing along, I got a lot of trampled snow in the picture ;)
Here is the back, I put Merry Christmas and signed it in one of the geese.
I am still working on prairie points on the puppy dog/snail quilt. I hope to get that done soon. Pinning and sewing a line of prairie points to the quilt, takes longer than making the pp's!
Have a great weekend all.
Quilting fun
  Hello Everyone,
Hope your weekend is going well.
I've been happily sewing along! I just LOVE my new machine and the walking foot.
This project is for a forum member. It's a quilt for her Grandson. We do this for all our members who have a new baby coming to the family.
I started quilting this quilt with my White and a regular presser foot. And now that I am using a walking foot, WOW, what a difference!!
Isn't this quilt cute?? I'll show you the whole quilt when I'm done. It's just some straight line quilting along the seams. But with all that applique, that's all the quilt really needs... I know, I still have lots of practicing to do :)
Here is another project I'm working on. A Fall table runner.
This is my own pattern. Using those cute little windmill blocks and some flying geese blocks. I was able to quilt this up in two of Isaiah's nap times. Using stitch in the ditch method this time.
Here's the back of it.
I just have to get the binding on, and then this project is done. YAH!
So what have you been working on? Have you started your Christmas sewing yet? I really need to get busy with mine.
Hooking up with the girls of quilt story today. Thanks H&M.
And with Freshly pieced . Thank you Lee.
Have a great day!
What I'm working on
Hello Everyone,
It seems like forever since I've shown you an actually finish, that's larger than a bib. And I don't have a finish to show you today. But you Moms all know what it's like, especially if you're a home schooler.... with a new baby. lol
Anyways, this is what I am working on...
Some lovely Fall colors. It's going to be a table runner, and it's  a Christmas gift... so I WILL have it finished to show you soon :)
These cute little HST's are only 1" finished...
This is one of my favorite blocks to make with HST's. I don't know what it is about windmill blocks, but I like them.
~~~~~

I also received the rest of the fabric I needed to finish the Zebra quilt we are making for Sally's grandbaby, on the forum. So I need to finish getting that put together.

And this coming week I am getting a new-to-me machine!! I can't wait. I HAVE to have this machine....as I have a walking foot that doesn't fit on any of my machines at home. I was told this walking foot " fits all low shank machines", well, it doesn't. After I bought it, I was told by another person who sells old machines, that they never made a walking foot that fits a White rotary machine?!

So, I brought in our Singer 201-2 that had been out in an outbuilding. It was here when we moved in. I don't know how long it was sitting out in that building... and I don't know why it took me so long to bring it in the house to see if it works. LOL.

But, one of the parts we needed for it, we haven't been able to find. And it seems like the motor is binded up. And a few other things. So...

We looked on Ebay yesterday and found a beautiful Singer 201-2 that is in great shape. And it comes with a passel of lovely feet and attachments, all in their original boxes.... I can't WAIT till it gets here!!!

And when it does get here, I can finish the two baby quilts I have committed to quilt for our Quilty Aunts on the forum. And THEN, I can get to Isaiah's quilt.

:) Have a great day. I'll be sure to show you pictures of my lovely machine, when it gets here.
