Charity quilts

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to talk a bit today about charity quilts on the Q&N forum. We have three charities that we make quilts for. We have ever since Jess started the forum. It's our way of helping out to some of those in need.

Right now our three charities are: (Clicking on the links will bring you to the treads on the Q&N forum for those charities.)

Harmony Home. A counseling center for abused children.

Pine Ridge Native American Reservation.  Supporting Native Americans in need.

Quilts of Valor. For our military. And also for forum members who have a military family member or friend in need of a quilt.

You can read a bit about each of our charities here.

We are always looking for more volunteers to help make these quilts. What we do is we sign up for making blocks, piecing and quilting a quilt each month or two. We also have volunteers give the backing and battings or send money to the quilter to purchase these items.

If you want to help out, then come on over and sign up to the forum. It's free and painless ;) and go to one of the charity threads and volunteer whatever you are comfortable doing.

We've made some fun, gorgeous quilts for these charities.  Here's a few we've made over the years.

Friendship X and + blocks

Hello Everyone,

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments on my Kona solids blog hop. I had a handful or so of no-reply bloggers, so if you didn't get a personnal thank you note from me, that is why. I had no way of emailing you.

Pat and I are having a lot of fun with our Friendship blocks.

I just received her Dec and Jan blocks. Mine need to go out to her, we were both late with our Dec blocks, but neither of us care that much they are a bit late. We are just enjoying swapping together.

They all look so good together to.

I enjoy looking over Pats and seeing all the pretty little pieces she is using.

I enjoy going thru my scraps and bringing back some of my favorite little pieces to put in our blocks.

WOW, time sure does fly!

Howdy folks,

I can't believe that I'm heading into my FOURTH year here in blog land!!! The time is just racing by so very quickly.

Ever since Isaiah's been born, the blog has been somewhat chaotic. I just don't have a lot of sewing time and I try to keep my blog more sewing related than anything.

Isaiah is going to be 2 in a few months, how'd that happen!! Geesh.

If you're a new reader, I want to say welcome and I hope you stick around. I do intend to keep my blog and start posting more soon.

Some Christmas stitching

Hello Everyone,

I'm finally getting around to showing you what I was working on before Christmas.

My best friend has 2 grandchildren that are very close in age to my little guy. I wanted to make them an I spy quilt to play with at Grandma's house, but didn't have the time.

So I made these cute I spy pillows instead. I only have a full picture of Emma's.

I don't know what possessed me to quilt not only the fronts of the pillows.

But the backs as well as the pockets! I guess I was having fun :)

These pockets are big, so they can fit a book or two in them :)

Emma is the one in the photos, very nicely showing off the pocket, and pointing out things.

I also made these quick, easy coasters and mug rugs for said friend.

I hope to get back to blogging a bit more often this year. Thanks for sticking with me.

Kona Solid blog hop

Hello, hello Everyone!

Thank you so much for stopping by. If you're new here, I hope you like what you see and come back :)

A big thank you to Samm for keeping these great blog hops going. And to Carol, our wonderful cheerleader this go around.

I had this beautiful FQ bundle sitting in my stash, just waiting for the right project to come along.

I thought something radiating...maybe stars of some sort. So I started searching around the web for inspiration and came across this adorable  starburst mini quilt from Canoe Ridge Creations. And thats when inspiration struck!

I wanted to use this star pattern, but expand it and make it like it was radiating outwards. I thought it would be great if I could use my FQ bundle, and have the colors gradient outward also, along with a few other colors.

So I got out my paper and pencils, then went to my EQ program and I came up with this.

By this time it was the middle of December, and I was busy making Christmas gifts. There was no way I was going to get this pretty quilt made.

So I scaled it down and used the colors that I had in my stash, and came up with this little wall hanging. It's 32"x32".

 I knew that my dh would really like it, as he loves the bright lime green and the orange. So I gave it to him for Christmas :)

I had the perfect backing in my stash too.

I used my walking foot to do some straight line quilting on most of the quilt.

But then I put on my darning foot and did a bit of free motion quilting.

My first time doing some stippling.

And yes, I DO plan on making a full sized quilt like the one I drafted sometime this year :) I'll be sure to show it to you when I do.

ALOYF 2013 recap

Hello Everyone,

I want to thank Melissa and Shanna for such a fun year of goal setting!

 Here are the finishes I had for 2013. I didn't know about this fun event till March, so thats when I started. In order to qualify for the final year finishes prizes, you have to have 6 finishes and posted about them, over the year. I JUST made it!

And they are doing it all over again for 2014, it's a fun way to make a goal each month, and the prizes they give help to keep me on track :)
