Some tops

 Hello All,

I didn't mean to be go for so long. Sewing has been up and down, following the weather patterns we've been having. I get cold easily now a days and when we've had cold, rainy weather, I stay in the living room near the fire. Our Spring has been going from the warm upper 70s down to the low 30's, back and forth.

I have managed to get a few tops finished though. This table runner is completely finished and already at it's new home. I just forgot to take a photo of it all quilted and bound.

This one was a mystery quilt on my forum. Heather is often doing quilt mysteries with us, always so fun. Mine didn't come out as well as others, as I used to many shades of green and then the two different whitish colors.

I had chosen this hedgehog fabric as the main focus, so chose colors to go with it. The white with butterflies matches perfectly (the colors of the butterflies), but it wasn't the right project for them.

And here is the cute, colorful irish chain top. I got the borders on and hopefully will get some backing soon and get it quilted up.

I need to turn to quilting, as I have lots of tops that need finishing. But quilting is much harder on me than piecing, and more fun too :)

Linking up with the sweet Ms Pat this week, thank you Pat.

Thank you for stopping by, have a great day!

Under my needle

Hello Everyone,

I've been busy in the sewing room. First making bear paw blocks, then swapping them out with an online group of fun Ladies. Here is the ten I received back.

I am going to make a quilt out of them and this bear, that I got from Lorna's Bear Paw pattern. I had to change it up just slightly, as I didn't want the sashing and cornerstones in it.

I'm working on the border pieces right now. And there are LOTS of them!!

Each of the bear paw prints are 4.5" unfinished, which means these are tiny pieces! The white is cut at 1" and the brown is cut at .75"! But you cut the strips and sew them together, then subcut them, so it isn't too tedious.

I also got a few table runners finished. My sweet Big Sis sent me these, you can cut all four apart and make place mats with them, but I like to use table runners, so I sewed two together, with some matching fabrics.

I put one facing one way, and one another because there is six of us at the table and we sit on each side of it.

The colors did not come out very good. They are gray and a light aqua color.

And I've started my Christmas gifts! I need to get going, Christmas is going to be here before we know it :)

The weather is beautiful. Cool at night, warm in the afternoon. Crisp and Fall like, with the leaves all turning colors....now we just need some rain!

Hope you are all well and enjoying some sewing time.

Table runner finished!

  Hello Everyone,

I got my table runner finished! Now to get it off in the mail, so it can be used by it's recipient.

I looked out the window and saw all our pretty snow and had to take a picture of the runner on it! lol. Of course, with 2 kids trailing along, I got a lot of trampled snow in the picture ;)

Here is the back, I put Merry Christmas and signed it in one of the geese.

I am still working on prairie points on the puppy dog/snail quilt. I hope to get that done soon. Pinning and sewing a line of prairie points to the quilt, takes longer than making the pp's!

Have a great weekend all.

Quilting fun

  Hello Everyone,

Hope your weekend is going well.

I've been happily sewing along! I just LOVE my new machine and the walking foot.

This project is for a forum member. It's a quilt for her Grandson. We do this for all our members who have a new baby coming to the family.

I started quilting this quilt with my White and a regular presser foot. And now that I am using a walking foot, WOW, what a difference!!

Isn't this quilt cute?? I'll show you the whole quilt when I'm done. It's just some straight line quilting along the seams. But with all that applique, that's all the quilt really needs... I know, I still have lots of practicing to do :)

Here is another project I'm working on. A Fall table runner.

This is my own pattern. Using those cute little windmill blocks and some flying geese blocks. I was able to quilt this up in two of Isaiah's nap times. Using stitch in the ditch method this time.

Here's the back of it.

I just have to get the binding on, and then this project is done. YAH!

So what have you been working on? Have you started your Christmas sewing yet? I really need to get busy with mine.

Hooking up with the girls of quilt story today. Thanks H&M.
And with Freshly pieced . Thank you Lee.

Have a great day!

Tutorials...and scraps

Hello everybody, hope you had a great weekend!

I've been playing with scraps. Just making a pretty little wall hanging. The flowers on green was an FQ I had.

I also made these blocks. They are going to be a little wall hanging too.

There are some scraps, I just can't get rid of! LOL

I've also got some tutorials coming up. This Thursday, the 1st, I will have the tutorial for his gift bag up.

And on Dec 9th, I will have the tutorial for my Christmas table runner up. Here is that sneak peek again.

Hope you are all overstuffed from a nice Holiday weekend. I've got some turkey parts and carcass in the freezer, they'll make good soup on a cold winter day. The pies and stuffing are long gone. And now my thoughts are turning toward Christmas.

I LOVE Christmas baking :) Can't wait to make some frosted chocolate ginger bread cookies and some ginger snaps. I think I'll even give my hand a go at some divinity this year.

Have a great evening!

Whew! It's fixed....

Hi all, I was having problems with my camera software. Soooo glad it's fixed!! I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't put my pictures up.

So here's a few pictures of the snow we had last weekend.
This is in our front yard. Under that snow is some rock pathways and flower/herb beds.

Here is our garden area, we still have some Kale, spinach, swiss chard, and maybe some lettuce growing! They don't mind the snow it seems....at least for a few days.

And as the name of my blog implies, we do live on a ridge. LOL. This is the view of the canyon/ridge on other side, that is on the other side of our house.

And now....back to sewing! Our favorite hobby...

Here is a sneak peek of the table runner I am making as a tutorial, you'll get to see all of it in Dec.

I've been on a prairie point kick lately. Put some on my bag from the last post, and this runner. They are fun and easy to make, and just give your project a little extra.

If you don't know how to make them, I do have a tutorial in my tutorial section, here is the direct link to the prairie points.

You would think with all the time I've had with no computer last weekend, that I would of been sewing up a storm! But other than the bag, runner and secret C gift, that's all the sewing I've been doing.

I've got an idea for a boy quilt though...so am going to start on that today, as it's a rainy day, so a great time to spend in front of the sewing machine.

OH, and a BIG THANKS to  Jera, from Quilting in the Rain. I've won a $20 gc from her brand NEW online store. Go check it out!! She has some lovely fabric, great prices, and give aways!

Have a great day all!!

Quilt-as-you-go table runner and some Spring pictures

Linking up with Karen.

Linking up with Quiltstory.

I whipped up this cute table runner yesterday. It's made from the charm pack of Fandago that I won.

It's quick and easy...

I made a quick tutorial for it on the Q&N.

Looks like Spring is finally arriving. Slowly but surely. Here is a few pics for you.

The RedBud still looks funny. As it's just a bunch of sticks with some buds attached right now.

It wont leaf out very much, until the blooms are starting to die.

Here is the first Lilac blooms.

Very similar to the RedBud...but it has it's leaves first.

And a pretty little wildflower, not sure what it is.

Hope you all are getting a little bit of sunshine and warm weather.

Thanks for stopping by, Dorian

A table runner

Linking up with Karen! I love doing this, thanks Karen.

sew many ways

If you all read my post over at the Q&N, you know I've decided to really start doing some machine quilting this year. Of course, I hope to get back to my hand quilting soon too, but I need to fix my hand first :)

I have 3 times as many of these ....

That need to be quilted. So I need to do some machine quilting too.

I got the right presser foot for doing some straight line quilting.

Just some simple, echo quilting.

I still have a problem with getting my backing nice and smooth.

I know...lots of crinkles....

The front doesn't look too bad though.

A happy Spring runner.

I figure I'll have plenty of practice this Summer :)

Advice, comments, helpful tips are all very much appreciated.

Have a great day.

Thanks for stopping by, Dorian
