January goal...finished!

Hello All,

Whew, I just made it. I got my dd's quilt top finished, which was my goal for January for ALYOF (which you can read about here).

As you can see, the wind was being a big problem today. So my pictures aren't all that great. But you get the idea.

My DD has a single bed, so this is plenty big enough. Just slightly longer than wider, thanks to the extra border top and bottom.

I'll try to get better pictures later in the day, when the wind has died down.. if it dies down.

For now, I'm calling it Fort Firefly, as that's the name of this cute fabric.

Thank you Melissa and Shanna!

Have a great day all.

WIP wednesday

Hello Everyone,

I've been working on my dd's quilt. I have all the quilt blocks sewn together, so now I just need to add a border.

Funny story... I designed this quilt in EQ, on my older computer. When we bought a new computer I saved some of the quilt designs so I can transfer them into my new computer and wouldn't lose them.

Well, for some reason, I never saved the design for this particular quilt. So I wasn't sure if I had designed it in a 5 x 5 grid, or a 4 x 6.

So I got out some paper real quick and made me a pattern up in the 5 x 5 grid. Just a quick sketch so I can put the blocks in the right spot. Then I sewed it up.

The funny part is... before I got out that paper to make my quick sketch.. I had decided on doing a 4 x 6 grid... lol, so I don't know why a 5 x 5 grid was sketched up.

But thats' ok, I really like it this way.

Especially the middle part here. With the girls surrounding the middle windmill.

I'm going to put a wide border on the top and bottom to make the quilt longer, and just a slim border on the sides to have it all come together.

Today I'm linking up with Lee. And with Lorna at SewFreshQuilts and her Bee Social Wednesdays. Thanks Ladies!

Happy New Year!!!! and goal setting

A very Happy New Year to you all! I hope it's a wonderful year for you. Full of all manners of good stuff, and lots of creativity.

Shanna and Melissa are at it again. In for another Lovely Year of Finishes.

A Lovely Year of Finishes

For my first finish, I want to get my dd's quilt top completed.

I just need to iron and trim, then I can put these all together.

So I think I can get that much done!

Do you make New Year's resolutions? I don't really. But I would like to see about getting more time to sew and blog this year. My little guy is going to be 3 soon, so he is enjoying playing with the big kids a lot more. But that also means he is deciding he doesn't need a nap! He will nap maybe 3 or 4 days out of the week. He sleeps good at night though :)

So, we shall see what the new year brings.

Have a wonderful day! Thanks for sticking around thru my quiet times.

Linking up with Melissa and Shanna.

Laundry List linky party!

Hello All!

I'm joining  Kathy  today. She has a great progress report linky thing going on at the end of every month. And she has fun prizes to giveaway!

I've gotten all my blocks done for my dd's quilt. So now it's time to put them together. I had set this project aside so I could quilt my son's dino quilt.

His quilt was my August goal for ALYOF, and I didn't make it. I still have 3/4 of the quilt left to quilt.

But I have to put both those projects aside for now. As I need to start on my Black Cat Crossing project. Here's the lovely fabrics I bought for it.

I think I have my project figured out, now to get the measurements correct and start cutting.

This is what I'll be working on thruout Sept. I have till the end of Oct, but with the small amount of time I have in the sewing room, I need to work on it.

Thanks Kathy for inviting me to join your linky party!

Go see Design originals by KC and check out other participants.

Have a great weekend!

A few things

Good morning everyone,

The skies are still smoky, the fires still burning, but they are getting contained. Thankfully they are not close enough to us this year to make us be in danger.  But prayers for them being put out is appreciated. If you look at a fire map, it looks like the whole Western side of the US is burning. Pretty scary. Zoom in on Northern California, and you can see all the fires in my area (the gray means it's been put out).

So, onto fun things instead ;)

Blog hop season is starting over at Sew We Quilt. I am not in either of the Sept ones, but I did decide to make a fun Fallish/Halloweeny type one. For the Black Cat Crossing hop in late Oct.

I am not much of a Halloween decorator, but I really like Maywoods fabric lines, this line is called Black Cat Crossing. I can pick fabrics from that line that are more Fallish to me, then Halloween, and it will be a fun quilt to make. Something different for me.

I've got most of my blocks done for my DD's quilt.

Just have a few more windmill blocks to make.

Now they all need a good ironing and I can start putting things together.

I'm still waiting on backing for my son's quilt.

And I'm still working on my new sewing room. I need to start getting that together. All I have in there so far is my cutting table and sewing machine, plus a few new fabric bins :)

Have a great day all.

What I'm working on

Hello All,

Hope your Friday is off to a great start. The temps have come down a bit, so it's not TOO awful hot here.

I finally got my pattern figured out for Rachael's quilt. Here are the fabrics I'm using.

I know she is 16, but I just could NOT resist the cute, whimsical fabrics. She's had a tree fort since she was 8yrs old. So when Fort Firefly by Teagan White came out, I had to get some. I mean, a cute little girl giving wild animals a party, wild animals who just happen to live in tree forts! Of course I had to have it. LOL

She also loves her kitties, so the kitties had to come too (Hello Petal and Here Kitty Kitty) . And my good friend Pat gave me some other cute, wild life critters (Critter Patch) to come and play also :)

When I taught myself to quilt, there wasn't precuts out there. You bought yardage. I learned to strip piece, and even after 21 yrs, it's still my preferred method, although I do enjoy precuts too.

For instants, this is one of the blocks I'm making.

For the middle, I took my focus fabric and cut out a 6"x wof strip, then two 2" blue strips and sewed them on either side of the focus fabric. Then cut that strip at 6" intervals. The strip on the right will be cut like the strip on the left was.

For the top and bottom pieces of the center, I did the same thing. Using the blue background, I cut a 6"x wof strip, and added a 2" strip of cats on either side. Then cut at 2" intervals.

I'll do this step again, using 9" x wof blue strip, for the top and bottom.

Strip piecing saves time and for me, is more accurate.

I'll show you more as this quilt is made. It was so nice to just sit and cut and sew for awhile yest :)

Have a great day all.
