Scrappy goodness

Hello All,

We got our first snow of the year :) That makes me happy. It wasn't a lot, but it sure did look pretty coming down. And makes for a great time to be in the warm house, playing with my scraps.

I started this project back in Feb of 2016, it's called Round of Nines Reinvented. (The link for the project no longer works. It's a  Quilting Company pattern, here is a youtube video for it.) I would work on it, the put it away in a drawer for a long while, then work on it a little bit more. It spent most the time in the drawer. But a few months ago I decided to take it out and finish it.

After making all my 9 patch blocks, I laid them out and decided it was way too busy for me. I had to put some sashing in there and slow things down a bit.

Then I used some more scraps, and made this cute border.

Here's where it is so far. It's 58x58, I think I want to add one more sashing/small border to rest the eyes, and then some more scrappy goodness at the top and bottom to make it longer.

While those ideas are perculating in my head, these scraps called out to me, as I went thru the scrap drawer.

They got to send to me by  my quilty friends who I was doing a round robin with. The are leftover pieces that one person sends along with the row she added, in case others want to use some of the bits and pieces in their row.  This is the round robin we made.

And this is what I am making with those tiny HST's you see in the picture of these scraps.

These stars are quite small, the HST's are 1.5" unfinished. Not sure what I am doing with these cuties, but I'll figure something out.

I've been having fun playing in my scrap bin! So many lovely things can come out of those little pieces :)

Have a great day!

Making some progress

Good morning All,

I haven't had much time in the sewing room, but I have managed a bit here and there.

I'm working on my project for the Opposites attract blog hop starting next month.

My FMQing is rusty, but I had fun making these quick flowers. I love these greens and purples!

I got my inspiration from nature. Spring time on the Ridge means lots of greens and purples. Everything from pinky-purple.....

To dark purple...

And so many shades in between.

It always amazes me how many purple wildflowers there are here :)

I've also done a bit of work on my 9patch quilt.

I still have a long way to go, and many blocks to make before it's time to iron and trim.

These are 4.5", aren't they cute! This is a great scrap buster, I can't wait to see if finished.

Linking up with Lorna and Lea Anne today, thank you Ladies!

A new project

Hello All,

While I'm waiting for fabric for my cornerstones quilts, I've been playing with some more scraps. I like to use strips when piecing, so tend to have a lot of various sized strip pieces left over. I save them and got them sorted awhile back.

Last year, I saw this post and knew I had to make one of these quilts, one day. Well, that one day is here... at least I'm getting a start on it.

I'm making the 9 patches, I'll need some this way..

And some this way...

I cut out my background fabric, some of these are left over strips from other projects, but much of it is just cut from yardage. Various Sunkissed pieces in gray.

I've gathered my colorful 1.5" strips, and started sewing them to the background pieces. One set is a row of colored pieces/gray/colored pieces and one set is gray/colored pieces/gray. It doesn't matter that my colored pieces are various lengths.

Then I trim the end and start cutting 1.5" strips from these sets.

When I come to the end of one piece, I just cut it out and continue on my way.

When the sets are all sewn together, I press them with the seams opposite each other. One set towards the middle strip, one set towards the outside strips, so that when I sew them together, they nestle nicely.

I have a lot of pressing and cutting to do...

The weather is gorgeous here this week :) So the kids are outside playing a lot.. which gives me time to head to the sewing room.

Have a great day all.

Playing catchup

It's been rainy and cloudy all week. So I decided to play catch up and get my commitments caught up.

Just doing some baby blocks for some Aunty quilts we are doing on the forum. This first block makes such a cute baby quilt. And you can use up your scraps doing it.

This next one is just a plain 9 patch. But when the piecer gets all the blocks, she will cut them up and make a disappearing 9patch quilt for a little boy.

I also finished a row for our row robin. But haven't gotten a picture of it yet.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I also got started on this pretty paper piecing project.
I bought it sometime last year, and have been collecting some bright tone on tones mostly, to make it with.
I have these all cut out and ready to go.
It's a nice project to just have on hand, when I feel like doing a bit of piecing.
But for today. I have this quilt all basted and ready to quilt. It's a cold, windy day, we are expecting more rain.... so a perfect project to keep myself busy with.
Have a great day!
scrappy box progress
 Hello everyone,
I decided to go with a traditional block for using up strips...the log cabin. To finish off the scrappy boxes I've been working on.
A good handful of my strips that I just could NOT throw away, were only 1"x5". A 1" strip cut off my charm pack of Northcote Range.
So I have trimmed all the scraps I am using down to 1" in width. These blocks measure 5".
I like the various ways you can put log cabins together, to make different designs.
I have about 34 boxes to put strips on. These are only a few of them. Lots of work to do still.
Maybe next week I'll have a bit more to show you.....
Have a great day!
