I'm not sure what this block is called

 Hello all,

It's quite smoky here this morning, there is a large fire burning to the East of us. Far enough away to not worry about it, but the wind is blowing right toward us. Our logging site is up there... I hope the fire doesn't turn towards it. 

I've been working on these blocks on and off all year. I'm not sure what they are called, and I can't seem to find the site I saw them on. I do recall noticing them on more than one blog, but I guess I didn't save a link to one, like I thought I did.

I had a stack of the white with gray fabric squares that had been cut 1/8" too small. And I had a pile of the bigger, yellow squares, that had been cut 1/4" too small. 

I was happy that when I put 2 of the whitish blocks together (with 2 colored squares I cut), into a 4 patch, that 4 patch is the same size as the yellow squares :)

So I got out my square scrap box. It has lots of 2" squares, plus some 1 1/2", 3" and 3 1/2" squares in it, all ready to be used in  a scrappy quilt. I took some colorful 2" squares and cut 1/8" off two sides, put them together with the whitish squares. Got some 3 1/2" squares and cut them down a 1/4", along with the yellow squares. I ran out of the whitish/gray squares and went thru my scraps finding white to cut up. And I had myself some fun :)

I mixed some floral prints in there and cut some more yellows, and now I'm laying the blocks out, figuring how I want it to look.

If anyone knows what this block is called, give a shout out in the comments please.

I'm going to set these aside now though, as I have to finish my youngest son's quilt. I don't have much more to do.

Disappearing 9 patch, and a finish

Hello Everyone,

It's crazy how fast this year is going. The older I get, the faster it seems to go.

I've been working a lot with my scraps this year. It feels good to get them used up.

Yesterday I pulled out my 2 1/2" squares to play with. Sorting them by color, dark and light.

I am making a disappearing 9 patch. You take a simple 9 patch. And cut it in the middle on both sides.

Then you have 4 blocks that look like this. That you can switch around..

Turning this way and that...

Until you have a design you like...

You can mix and match them too...

I still have a lot of 9 patches to make, so am not sure how I am going to make the final layout. Stay tuned :)

Here is another finish I did in Sept. This one was finished right at the end of the month. I'm calling it mosaic tiles.

I was fascinated by this triangle, made by using a square and 2 triangles.

You put four of them together and you get this block.

I'm sure this has a name, but I don't know what it is. I just that it was a fun block to make. Now that the quilt is finished, I wished I would of made it bigger. This one is 44 x 50. I think the two borders really set it off. I'm sure a little girl somewhere will love it, it's going in my donate pile.

It's a good thing I have lots of scraps to play with, as there are lots of great scrappy quilts to make!

Playing catchup

It's been rainy and cloudy all week. So I decided to play catch up and get my commitments caught up.

Just doing some baby blocks for some Aunty quilts we are doing on the forum. This first block makes such a cute baby quilt. And you can use up your scraps doing it.

This next one is just a plain 9 patch. But when the piecer gets all the blocks, she will cut them up and make a disappearing 9patch quilt for a little boy.

I also finished a row for our row robin. But haven't gotten a picture of it yet.

I also got started on this pretty paper piecing project.

I bought it sometime last year, and have been collecting some bright tone on tones mostly, to make it with.

I have these all cut out and ready to go.

It's a nice project to just have on hand, when I feel like doing a bit of piecing.

But for today. I have this quilt all basted and ready to quilt. It's a cold, windy day, we are expecting more rain.... so a perfect project to keep myself busy with.
