July goal...MET!

Hello Everyone,

Hope your Summer is going well. The weather has been interesting, going up and down between the lower 80s and upper 90s. We even got a few Tstorms with rain! That was nice. It was actually so chilly one morning, I had to put on a sweatshirt.

My July goal for ALOYF was to finish quilting and bind this cute charity quilt.

I did straight line stitching on both sides of horizontal and vertical seams. I think it came out just right.

I had the perfect backing in my stash :)

Now I need to get it sent off, it's been sitting in my house too long.

Have a great day All!

July ALYOF goal

Hello all,

With the heat we are having, it's hard to do much sewing. I just want to sit in front of the cooler :)

But I really need to finish this charity quilt, and get it sent off. So that's my goal for July.

I'm about 3/4 of the way done with the quilting. So I should be able to finish it up.

Thanks Melissa and Shanna!'

June is flying by

Hello Everyone,

Wow, didn't mean to be silent for a few weeks. I just never seem to get/take the time to take any pictures of what I'm working on. And then, I end up working on the same things for weeks because my sewing time is limited.

If finally started quilting this charity quilt.

I'm halfway thru. Have already sewn on both sides of the vertical seams, now am working  my way thru the horizontal seams.

I celebrated a birthday this last week. My sweet dh bought me EQ7!! I have been working with version 4,which is a dinosaur! Number 7 is such a treat to play around with, everything works so much smoother. Thank you Sweetie :)

So I've been having fun with that. Deciding how I am going to use this pretty bundle my good friend Pat sent me. Thank you Pat!  They are a mix of Here Kitty Kitty and Critter Patch from Clothworks and Most of them will be part of a collection I have going to make my dd's quilt. The pretty blue background you see, is going to be the background of the quilt.

And my dear big Sis sent me a fun package. This neat panel was part of my goodies. Isn't it cool?!

Those were just a few of the things I received. It was a nice birthday :)

Well, I hope to post more often. Have a great day ya'all!

April goal...met!

Hello Everyone,

Hope it's warm and sunny for you all. It's just gorgeous here. I love this time of year.

Here's what I've been working on this week.

I finished quilting and binding this 9patch charity quilt! (The top was donated to Jess at the Q&N. She asked if I could quilt it up.)

It's my April goal for ALOYF, yah!! It's mid April and I got it done.

I finished piecing this charity top too. The Gals and I at the Q&N all made some blocks, they sent theirs to me, and I pieced it. (The wind was playing havoc with my photo shoot. lol)

I know, it came out to 2 different designs. I looked and looked at these rows and determined that in order to fix it so that I only had either the large diamonds as a secondary pattern OR the chevrons, I would have to change some of the blocks in a few of the rows (rotate them around) and I really don't want to take it apart that much. Sigh~ So I think I'll just leave it as is. I still think it's cute and I don't think a child will mind, do you?

I even got 2 of my April X and + blocks done! yah

Wishing you all a Blessed and Happy Easter!

More charity work this week

Hello All,

It's Sewjo Saturday with Kim.

It's been a gorgeous week out. I've spent a lot of time outdoors and not very much at the sewing machine.

I did some more work on this charity quilt.

I have a bout a third of it done. Need to get working on it.

And I started piecing this one together. This one is going to Harmony Home in TX.

Thats all on the quilting front. Hope you had a great week.

Charity quilts

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to talk a bit today about charity quilts on the Q&N forum. We have three charities that we make quilts for. We have ever since Jess started the forum. It's our way of helping out to some of those in need.

Right now our three charities are: (Clicking on the links will bring you to the treads on the Q&N forum for those charities.)

Harmony Home. A counseling center for abused children.

Pine Ridge Native American Reservation.  Supporting Native Americans in need.

Quilts of Valor. For our military. And also for forum members who have a military family member or friend in need of a quilt.

You can read a bit about each of our charities here.

We are always looking for more volunteers to help make these quilts. What we do is we sign up for making blocks, piecing and quilting a quilt each month or two. We also have volunteers give the backing and battings or send money to the quilter to purchase these items.

If you want to help out, then come on over and sign up to the forum. It's free and painless ;) and go to one of the charity threads and volunteer whatever you are comfortable doing.

We've made some fun, gorgeous quilts for these charities.  Here's a few we've made over the years.

Have a great day.

More snow pictures.

You would think with all the snow we've been getting, that I would have some projects done to show you. But...I don't :)

We got up to a foot of snow by Friday afternoon! That's the most snow we've seen at our place. It isn't supposed to stay long, we'll have some sun for a few days, then some rain. But it's fun while it's here.

Here is the tree on our back porch.

Isn't it beautiful!! Spock was having a fantastic time searching for snowballs in it. LOL

And look at these icycles in the fruit tree!

I did pull these out to work on.

This is part of some donated fabric that I have to use in our charity quilts. The woman was making simple 9-patches, three different sizes.  At least...I have one 9-patch she made, so I am guessing that's what she was doing with them all.

I've decided to do an Irish chain. I love Irish Chains! I will have to trim the smaller squares just a little, so that I can use the larger ones in the quilt too. I'll be doing a triple Irish Chain, so will only be using 4 of the colors. I think I'll keep the whites aside for something else.

But I didn't get very far. Got the note paper out and my colors place where I want them (on my paper). So maybe today I'll do some trimming and sewing.

I have a new tutorial up, it's on squaring the bottom of your bag. You can find it here and here.

Have a great day!

Thanks for stopping by, Dorian
