Two finished quilts

 Hello Everyone,

I have two finished quilts to show you. The first one is my Southwestern quilt that I started here. I made this for my son Jed. He's 6'3", so it had to be a big quilt. The quilt is 82" x 79", so just big enough.

Jed and I talked about the design and colors he wanted. And so I scanned the web looking for Southwestern designs to incorporate in his quilt.

He requested a soft, snuggly flannel for the back. Its hard to see this design, but it's a pine tree with a line going around it, makes it look a little Southwestern ;)

I had a good time designing this. And he says he really likes it, colors and all :) So I did a good job.

The next quilt is this pretty little baby quilt for my best friends newest Granddaughter. Who is due to arrive sometime in July.

I had some of these cute prints of the girl, animals and tree fort left over from  my Daughters quilt, so I went thru my stash and found some colors to go with it.

I just love this mint and pink together, isn't is sweet? This one also has a soft, snuggly flannel backing. These koala's are cute too! (the colors are not really true to form in any of the pictures, but come closest in the below picture.)

It's a small baby sized, just under 40" square. But one I hope she'll drag around with her and play with dollies with :)

Thanks for stopping by, and thank you Pat for your weekly link up.

Have a great evening,

Dorian

Hunters star and Cornerstones

Hello Everyone,

I've been busy in the sewing room this past week, it sure does feel good. I get some housework done, then head to the sewing room while the boys are outside.

So I have finished the Hunters star quilt top. It measures at 48x48. I REALLLY wish that I had more of the fabric so that I could of made it larger, because I just LOVE it!

I added some of my very favorite line in the border, Sunkissed by Sweetwater (the orange swirly) and the gray butterfiles in another favorite, Kona Bay. I am still considering adding another border to it... I have to let it congentate ;)

So while that is brewing in the back of my head, I decided to get my Cornerstones quilt quilted up. A simple 9 patch made of flying geese and disappearing 9 patches that I came up with. I love playing with EQ and making different patterns.

The backing is a soft, black flannel I bought from Thousands of  bolts. It's wide backing, love buying from them!

I've been trying to figure out how I wanted to quilt this quilt for quite a long time now. I started making it in the later half of 2015. This quilt is going on our bed, it will keep my sweetie warm for sure :)

Have a great Fourth of July!!

I'll pick and annouce the winner of my prize Wednesday at 9pm (so you have 24hrs to enter). Please make sure I have a way of contacting you!

                                                Timeless Treasures

This hop is all about our 'quilt qwaziness'... lol.. or why we enjoy quilting so much, our journey, etc. Well, I am crazy about fabrics. I love making things... bags, table runners, small quilts, large quilts, sewing machine covers... lots of things!  I have 4 old machines that I use. My two favorites are my late 1800s White Treadle, and my early 1900s Singer 210. I do all my quilting on this Singer.

I started out being a hand quilter. Then about halfway thru my quilting  'career' I turned to machine quilting. Which I still don't do a lot of quilting, as my HUGE stack of quilt tops convey :) I guess I am a piecer at heart ;) So I guess you can say I am crazy about piecing!

I taught myself how to piece and how to quilt (although my Grandma and Great-Grandma both quilted, I wasn't able to learn from either of them). When I was a newlywed and had lots of time on my hands (23 yrs ago), before the kiddo's started arriving, I would go to the library and check out stacks of quilting books (there was no internet back then). I look back at those first quilts and just have to laugh. Points are cut off, seams don't match, there are puckers and so forth. But those are treasured quilts for my kids, that I still have.

Ten years ago (or thereabouts) I joined a group of online quilters at a forum. That forum is gone now, but a few years after I joined that group, a group of us broke off and started our own forum. LOL, well, really, Jess started the forum and runs it today. But I think of it as 'ours' as I was there from the very beginning and have helped Jess out along the way. My long time readers know how much I love making mystery quilts, and that is Jess's line of business. Thats why I have so very many quilt tops packed away, waiting for them to become quilts. I tested most of Jess's patternes over the years, and for a few years, I tested some of Jess's Mom's patterns too. I've learned so much from these Ladies on the forum.

I eventually made it to making my own patterns. Bags and quilts, table mats and more. You can find my tutorials at the top of the screen under the 'tutorials' button. I have some tutorials over at Samm's site too (you can find a list of them on the right side bar). But many of my patterns are just first drafts, tucked away in a three ring binder. Who knows, maybe one day they'll come out and see the light of day. I always thought it would be fun to sell them.

This one I made for my oldest son a few years ago.

And here's the one I made for my dd last year.

I designed both of these quilts for my kids, it's one of my favorite parts of quilting. I love to design and pick out colors, I guess you could say I was crazy about it ;)

I have helped make many donation quilts over the years too. That is always fun, making quilts with friends who love to make quilts :)

This year, I've been working on my Cornerstone blocks quilt. And it's finally a pieced top! Yah. This is my own creation. Very simply two blocks put together to make something a bit different.

I love the corners.

Although, there are a few blocks I would turn around.... if I wanted to undo the quilt... which I don't LOL.

It just fits my queen sized bed.

And here's how far I've got on my Round of 9s reinvented.
Lots of chain stitching going on, to make all these little 4.5" 9 patches.

Here are my piles of segments I'm using.

Part of my love of quilting is helping others learn my craft. So you'll find lots of little tips and tricks through out my blog. I hope you stick around and browse my posts. Have a great day! Don't forget to go over to Marian's for another giveaway. I'll be using a random number generator to pick my winner. So be sure to leave me a comment!

WIP Wednesday

Good morning everyone!

Hope your day is off to a good start. It's going to be a beautiful day here.

I've been working on my disappearing 9patch quilt. I haven't figured out a name for it yet.

Here's the 9 patches, all ready for a good press and then cutting them apart.

And here are the flying geese, in progress.

I use the method where you get 4 geese out of 1 larger square and 4 smaller squares. I'm almost done with these, then I'll press and trim.

Linking up with Lee and Lorna again today. Thanks Ladies.

being lazy

 Hello Folks,

Sorry for the absense. I haven't been doing too very much. This is our hottest part of the year, and it's been dragging me down.  Along with a few other things ;)

I did get the baby top finished. So will be starting to quilt that this week.

I've also been getting a special post written, with a new pattern. Using 4 patches, 9 patches, and HST's in these colors.

So be looking for that post in the next week.

Have a great day all.

Hope you're enjoying the fabulous posts and giveaways over on stash manicure.

PS, don't forget to drop me a comment and leave me your name, if you're a wantobe quilter! LOTS of prizes you could win over at the Stash, come August.
