Scrappy box top2

Hello everyone,

My Scrappy Boxes is done! Well....except for the binding. I had a good time quilting it over the dreary weekend.

And the weather is still rainy and dreary, so forgive the darker photos.

I am joining up with Rachel and her Scrap Attack Festival. Thank you Rachel!

Here and here and here are the posts where I talked about my quilt and how I decided to go about cutting it up.

And this is what it looks like now. I went with pink thread, just for fun! Stitching in the ditch mostly.

 I made some 'snails' in the larger boxes in the middle of the quilt (I know, hard to see the stitching).

 I did 'snails' on the smaller ones too, stitching in the ditch.

 Here's the back, with a few leftover blocks on it.

 Here you can see my 'snails' better.....sort of. lol

 There is loads of beautiful scrap quilts joining the scrap attack, so go over and take a gander at them! Wonderful inspiration.

Have a great day!

Playing catchup

It's been rainy and cloudy all week. So I decided to play catch up and get my commitments caught up.

Just doing some baby blocks for some Aunty quilts we are doing on the forum. This first block makes such a cute baby quilt. And you can use up your scraps doing it.

This next one is just a plain 9 patch. But when the piecer gets all the blocks, she will cut them up and make a disappearing 9patch quilt for a little boy.

I also finished a row for our row robin. But haven't gotten a picture of it yet.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I also got started on this pretty paper piecing project.
I bought it sometime last year, and have been collecting some bright tone on tones mostly, to make it with.
I have these all cut out and ready to go.
It's a nice project to just have on hand, when I feel like doing a bit of piecing.
But for today. I have this quilt all basted and ready to quilt. It's a cold, windy day, we are expecting more rain.... so a perfect project to keep myself busy with.
Have a great day!
Mystery quilt weekend....March
Howdy everyone,
You all know how much I love Jess's mystery quilts. If you don't know who Jess is, she runs the Quilt and Needle web site and forum. She has a little store, she makes 4 mystery quilts a year and sells the pattern and kits.
It's not to late to buy a pattern for this weekends mystery either! You can go here and buy the pattern, using fabrics from your stash to make it. The installments of the pattern come right to your email box over the course of the weekend. And if you're a member of the Q&N forum, you can chat and share pictures with us all. It's lots of fun!
I was lucky enough to get one of Jess's kits this time around. And instead of testing as I usually do, I am playing along. What a fun thing to do on a rainy weekend! AND on National Quilting Day.
 Here are the gorgeous Moda Marbles in purples and yellows that I"ll be using.
Whatever you do this weekend, hope you have a great one!
A 30s WIP/UFO
Hello Everyone,
I finally got some sewing done this week. Boy, has it felt good too!
I made 5 of these blocks last year, then decided they were too busy for me and set them aside.
I dug them out this week and decided to work with them anyways. Even though they are still too busy for me. lol
So I made a few setting blocks and put them together as so.
Now to figure out a simple border.
~~~~

Besides working on that. I've got my crib up and have decorated the 'nursery'....which is just a corner of my bedroom.

But I've made a sheet and a receiving blanket. So more work on the sewing machine. I still have a nursing pillow to make. It's getting close, and the nesting instinct is in full force right now :)

Have a great day all!

It's been awhile...

Hi out there, it's been a long few weeks.

I haven't been sleeping well, which makes me tired during the day (thankfully I can take a nap or two). Which makes it hard to get on with the creative making of quilts and such.

I did make a bag. And I have made a few blocks for some "Auntie Quilts", but that's about all.

What's an "Auntie Quilt" you ask. On the Q&N forum, we all band together to make quilts for our members who are expecting a baby, a grand baby or a niece/nephew. Some of us make blocks, one person pieces, one quilts, one or more buy the backing and batting. It's a lot of fun.

And here is the FANTASTIC Aunty Quilt that my good friends made for me :)

I like white backgrounds, they look nice. But they don't go very well for our lifestyle. LOL, living in the mtns with animals and kids going in and out to play in the dirt and brush...umm,  no, white doesn't work. So the background for the stars is a nice yellow and the green and orange go with it so well! Green being my favorite color AND us not finding out if we are having a boy or girl till s/he gets here, it makes a great neutral quilt.

The stars all have baby animals or something similar, suitable for either boy or girl.

It's soooo cute!

And what's extra special.... my oldest sister is part of the Q&N forum, and she made some of the blocks :)

The back is a cute light green with a darker green line of bubbles every where. I thought this was a neat shot, with the sun streaming thru.

~~~~~
Speaking of the Q&N. The newest mystery quilt weekend will be March 17-18. You can buy the pattern here at the store. You can even buy a kit if you want. Jess's kits are beautiful! And we always have a thread going the weekend of the mystery, so that members can join in and share pictures and ask any questions.
I am also planning on getting something going for the Q&N blog, poor blog, it's been too long! I'm just tired and haven't gotten it all laid out yet. It will be a weekly post on various blocks.
Have a great day!
Finished it!
Hello everyone,
I went with DRASTIC....at least, for me it is!.... You take a perfectly lovely little quilt...and CUT IT...on both diagonals....EEK!
I then made four large log cabin blocks. This enabled me to use up the last bits of some of my favorite lines...Terrain and Sunkissed, and a few others.
I sewed the big blocks in a four patch...
Then turned it on point, and used the scrappy boxes as the corners. Putting a small, solid strip between the big and little blocks.
So what do you think? I've only cut one other quilt like this. It was a mystery quilt from Jess. I tell ya, it took some doing to get myself to cut that. But, as both the mystery quilt and this one I made came out looking great, I guess it's a good thing. LOL
I'm linking up with Jenna today.
And Lee at Freshly pieced.
UPDATE: I've decided to join the Scrap Attack quilt-along over at Stitched in Color with this quilt. Thank you Rachel! What a fun idea.
Have a great day!
Scrappy box top
My scrappy box top is done! It's very small, only 29"x29".
I was a baaaaad girl, and forgot to trim some of the finished blocks. Didn't even realize it till I was putting the rows together!! Geesh!
But, that just makes the whole thing a little wonky, and wonky quilt blocks are the 'in' thing right now, right?? LOL~! :)
So, I am NOT going to make more. Between the nerve problem in my hand, a huge belly (I'm at week 33 in my pregnancy!!), and not being able to stand for long periods, I just don't want to take the time to do alllllll that trimming these blocks take!
I could add a border....
Or, I could do something drastic!
I'll show you what I decided on doing when it's done.....it involves more strips and some squares.
Have a great weekend!
Rainbows....
The Lords Promise....
This is what we saw outside our kitchen window  last night, while cooking dinner.
Look closely at that top picture, you can see a double line of blues and purples.
As my blog name states, we live on the top of  a Ridge. This beautiful rainbow had one leg on the ridge top...
And one leg going down into the canyon on the left.
I wish I had some filters for my camera, so you could see the rich, vibrant colors of this rainbow better. I've never seen a rainbow so deep and colorful.
I over saturated the picture below just a little bit, so you can clearly see the double lines of blues and purples. They were so very clear with the naked eye.
Have a great day everyone.
More baby stuff
Hello out there! How is everyone?
I've been working on more baby things. I only have 8 wks to go! Unless baby is early or late. It's coming up quick.
Yesterday I got this cute front carrier made. It was made from a free pattern I got here. Very similar to the Mei Tei carrier pattern. And lots of fun to make!
The long straps go over my shoulders, cross on the back, wrap around to the front at the waist and tie baby in.
And there is small straps at the waist too, so baby doesn't fall out ;)
Yes, I know it's all girlish....it doesn't mean I'm having a girl though....I am still keeping it a surprise :)
Have a great day!!
scrappy box progress
 Hello everyone,
I decided to go with a traditional block for using up strips...the log cabin. To finish off the scrappy boxes I've been working on.
A good handful of my strips that I just could NOT throw away, were only 1"x5". A 1" strip cut off my charm pack of Northcote Range.
So I have trimmed all the scraps I am using down to 1" in width. These blocks measure 5".
I like the various ways you can put log cabins together, to make different designs.
I have about 34 boxes to put strips on. These are only a few of them. Lots of work to do still.
Maybe next week I'll have a bit more to show you.....
Have a great day!
Linking up with Jenna again.
