Oct goal completed!

Hello Folks,

Can you believe it's the end of Oct already??! I can't. It's just amazing how quickly the time is going.

On my goal setting post the beginning of Oct, I said that I wanted to get at least half way thru the quilting on J's quilt.

I am almost done with the straight line quilting. I just have one hexagon row to go.

And one day when I wanted to do something other than straight line quilting, I started on the FMQing.

I'm doing these connecting boxes in the background pieces.

A star in the hexagons. I'm not sure what I am doing in the middle of the triangles just yet.

But I think I've certainly hit the halfway mark :)

So next month I really want to get this finished up. It's starting to get quite chilly at nights.

Thanks Shanna and Melissa!

Bloggers quilt festival

Hello Folks,

It's time again for the Blogger Quilt Festival, put on by Amy every year. There are always awesome prizes and gorgeous eye candy to look at. Voting has started, so go over and pick your favorites.

I'm entering my Lone star that I made for our Paint Chip Challenge over on the Q&N. This challenge required us to make a project using one to three of the colors on a paint chip card. My colors are the beige/taupe ones.

I did some straight line quilting in the star.

And I did free motion roses in the background.

It's 42" square.

I quilted it on my Singer 201 vintage sewing machine. I am brand new to FMQing, and pretty new to quilting altogether on a home machine. I was a hand quilter for many years. So this is a fun, new challenge for me and I am really loving it.

Thanks Amy!

Mid month check in...ALOYF

Hello Everyone,

Such beautiful weather we are having. The sky is such a gorgeous blue. The black oaks with yellow leaves looks so lovely against it (the sky that is).

I'm moving right along on Jeds quilt. I have one hexagon row and one triangle row straight lined quilted. I'm stitching in the ditch, then ones in between.

When I have all the straight line quilting done, I'll go back and do some FMQing in the middle of the hexagons and triangles, and in the background.

Here's a peak at the back, it's looking good!

Click on the pictures and you can see the quilting lines a bit better.

Have a great day.

WIP Wednesday

Hello Everyone,

We are having such gorgeous Fall weather here. Our Black Oaks are starting to change color, well...their leaves are. lol The RedBud changes from green to brilliant oranges and reds, before the leaves fall off too. Such gorgeous colors among all the green Pines.

I started quilting J's quilt, Train stop. It's a LARGE quilt, and I dont have enough table in the back of my machine yet, but it's going ok.

I haven't decided if I am just going to do straight line quilting, to keep with the geometric design of the quilt, or if I am going to add some fmqing too. I'll get all my straight lining done, and see what I think.

(This quilt is entered into Quilting Galleries weekly contest. This week it's Modern Geometric. You can vote for your favorite on Friday.)

I also got most of my dino quilt top done for C. Here's a sneak can't see the rest till next month. I want to throw on a few solid strip borders before then too.

Have a great day!

Fabric and a plan, plus an awesome giveaway

Hello Folks,

I've got my 9yr the dinosaur fabric he wanted, and some great solids to go with it. So now I'm all set for making him a big boy quilt.

I thought I had a plan... but numerous pieces of paper and lots of time fiddling on EQ, and I'm still winging it. I have the dino fabrics cut up. The panel looking piece I got three 15x12" pieces out of, and the other dino fabrics I have a few different sized blocks, fussy cut out. So I'm going to add some of those solid strips to them, and maybe make some patches of solids (like 9patches maybe) and, um... throw it all together. LOL.

I'll show you a few sneek peeks, but you'll have to wait till the It's for the Boys blog hop next month to see the finished top.

Which brings me to the awesome giveaway. Samm, over at Sew We Quilt, has come up with a great way to SAY what her blog is all about. In three simple words... SEW and SHOW! As many of you know, Samm has been having great blog hops all year long. There are many I don't join in, so if you want to catch them all, make sure you follow

And if you pop over here you can make a comment, be a follower, tell others,  and blog about this fun place for up to 8 chances to win $250 to spend!!  WOW, and if you join in or comment on the blog hops each month, you always have a chance of winning some great prizes too. Plus you see a ton of great eye candy.

Ok, back to sewing...

October goal setting

Hello Everyone,

I missed out on Sept goal setting, I just didn't have anything that I knew I would be able to finish. I was doing a lot of practicing my free motion quilting and trying to figure out what I wanted to do for the backing to my son's quilt.

But this month, I'm ready! I have to piece the backing and sand which this top and start quilting it. I doubt I will finish quilting it, but I would like to get at least halfway done. So that's my goal, getting it halfway quilted.

Thanks again Shanna and Melissa!
