Come along on a picnic!



Hello Everybody,

Welcome to my picnic. We are a simple folk, who live a peaceful life in the Sierra mtns of beautiful California. There's nothing fancy about us. Just down home cooking, playing in the dirt, and enjoying the beautiful wildlife around us. If that sounds like a good place to picnic, then come along.

This beautiful Black oak is one of many around the ridge. It's a favorite spot, the kids enjoy climbing it and it puts off good shade.

 

We had a nice little picnic here today. Sandwhichs, carrot sticks, apples, raisins, lemonade and home made cookies. Simply good food :)


I made an I spy type of quilt for us. (You can read a bit more about it here.)



The two middle kids especially, love going on a picnic. And playing I spy is always a fun game. 


Educational too ;)


 We play various word games or maybe bring a frisbee or ball with us. Unless we are picnicing at one of the various creeks or rivers around the area. Then it's all about the sand and the water. Which is one of our favorite Summer time things to do.

But today, here is another view of the beautiful little spot we are in.


My daughter enjoys making baskets, and she made us this picnic one (which needs a bit of a repair after today :)

    Thanks, Dorian ... I really enjoyed picnicing on your beautiful ridge with your sweet family. The kiddos look like they are having a great time in the great outdoors.     What a wonderful day for making memories! Our children are grown and we're not grandparents yet, but I'm collecting fabrics for an I Spy quilt anyway - yours is charming and makes the perfect picnic quilt!

    I always have wanted to make an 'I Spy'; older kids as well as little ones enjoy the game. Beautifully done and what an enjoyable picnic area.

    I think it's really amazing that your daughter made your basket, she did a wonderful job. And I enjoy your I Spy quilt, it's fun. I shall have to convince my husband we need to take a jaunt up to the wooded areas around our valley so we can enjoy a picnic up there next, great idea!

    The eye spy quilt is perfect to keep little ones entertained during a picnic. How creative! I think it is great to use every possible opportunity for learning. And when you make it fun, they thrive. Your daughter's basket is gorgeous. I can see that creativity runs in the family.     Hi Dorian! I am so sorry to be late in commenting. This was our last week of school and it was crazy busy. Now that everything is packed up and put away, my life is quiet. I am spending the day reading what everyone wrote and taking time with the comments. I just love your I spy idea! I have the sweetest niece and two nephews who would love that idea too! I am thinking Christmas!! I also liked the spiral quilting in each block. The colors were super and it looked like everyone was having fun at the picnic.
